What is AAC+? AAC+ is an alternative codec to MP3. It compresses data in a way to allow it to sound as good our 128k MP3 stream while only using half of the amount of bandwidth (64k to be exact). However, it requires either the Winamp 5.0 Media Player or later (Windows) or the VLC Player (Mac/Linux). The stream will not play properly in older versions of Winamp and will not play AT ALL in iTunes as of now.
Hi-Speed vs Lo-Speed: "k" stands for Kilobytes per second. This is considered the "bit rate" at which our stream is relayed from our server to your computer, wherever you may be around the globe. Fast internet connections such as BROADBAND and DSL allow you to listen at the premium audio rates of 128k and 192k, while slower internet connections such as DIAL-UP or certain MOBILE PHONES perform better using our 32k or 64k AAC+ streams.
How to Play SmoothLounge Radio: First, determine if you have an on-board MEDIA PLAYER installed.
IF YOU HAVE A MEDIA PLAYER INSTALLED, simply select the desired stream from the Now Playing Section on our Home Page.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MEDIA PLAYER INSTALLED you can choose one from our MEDIA PLAYER LIST below. A restart may be required after installation.
ONCE YOU SELECT A STREAM, PC USERS must "okay" the download of the stream and choose an onboard MEDIA PLAYER to begin listening. MAC USERS will have their default MEDIA PLAYER opened automatically and the stream should begin to play soon after. Make sure your volume is turned up!
Easily Discover New Music: In our efforts to make it easier to connect you with new music, we display the CD Cover, Artist's Name, Song Title, and Album info along with BUY CD and DOWNLOAD links on our Front Page's Now Playing Section. In case you missed the current song, you can access our Last Hour Playlist to see the previous hour of music, including the currently playing selection.
